Grand Finals

Congratulations to the following Saints teams who have made it through to the Grand Final:

Under 10
Under 12G
Under 13

Preliminary Final

Our Colts 2 play off in the Preliminary Final this week against Preston Bullants at Templestowe Reserve. Kick off is at 12.30 so if any of our members are looking for a footy match to watch get along to this one and support the boys as they do their best to get through to the Grand Final.

Semi Finals

Sadly our Under 14's and Colts 1 teams were knocked out of the running last week. Our congratulations go to both these teams for making it through to the Semi Finals. Well done to you all and hold your heads high. You have done the Club proud.

Youth Girls Team

And don't forget our girls' team are still playing their season on Saturday mornings. Upcoming games are:

Date Time Home Team v Away Team Venue
23 August 9.00 a.m. Lalor Stars v St Damians AH Capp Reserve
30 August 10.30 a.m. Jacana v St Damians AH Capp Reserve

It would be great to see as many members as possible out there cheering on the girls.

Lost Property

If you have lost a piece of equipment or clothing, or found something that doesn't belong to you, why not advertise it here? There is no charge and hopefully we can save people some money! Just email Newsletter Nancy on newsletternancy@stdamiansjfc.com.au and it will be included!

Club Chat / Advertising

In addition to Lost Property, we also offer to our members the opportunity to advertise in our newsletter. You may have a beach house for holiday rental, furniture for sale or other items to share. These can be included in our newsletter. (Please note: businesses must contact our Secretary Gayle Caruso for inclusion). If you wish to have your item included in our Binnak Bulletin please email Newsletter Nancy on newsletternancy@stdamiansjfc.com.au

Coaches Corner

If you have any questions you would like answered about the finer art of football, or even a basic question you might feel too embarrassed to ask out loud, please email them to Newsletter Nancy on newsletternancy@stdamiansjfc.com.au and we shall have them answered for you (without telling anyone who you are!)

Garvey Nights

Our last Garvey Night for Season 2008 will be 31st August. This is Grand Final Day for the season so I am sure we will have some Premiership Flags on display - hopefully 4 of them!!

We will be seeking volunteers from the teams nominated to help organise the night as well as help setting up, working behind the bar, serving food, food preparation and many other tasks involved in making the night a success. If you can assist, please contact our Social Co-ordinator, Anna Maloni on 0402 320 696.

Anna will be there to help co-ordinate and organise what needs to happen before and on the night. The Garvey nights are great nights and they require everyone to give some of their time on one night to make them a success and to get involved in the Club.

Garvey nights are held at the Frank Mount Rooms at Garvey Oval, Parade College, Plenty Road, Bundoora. On these nights coaches will be in attendance to report on the progress of the team over the last month's games and hand out awards. Also on these nights we will conduct the Family Lucky Members Draw. Any family members who have paid their membership fees and are in attendance are eligible to win.

Committee 2009 & Annual General Meeting

This year has been an extremely successful one for year for the Club. In order to maintain our success we are seeking new members to replace some retiring members and to bring new, innovative ideas to the Club. With the Club experiencing its current success, it is vital that we have a full committee to run the Club.

New members will be elected to the positions at our AGM which will be scheduled for early October. Please see any of the current Committee members if you have any questions.

Running a Junior Football Club is a rewarding experience, but it can also be time demanding, so please, if you have the time, consider being part of the 2009 Committee. See application from at the end of this bulletin.

Considered Coaching in 2009?

Coaching is a fun & positive experience.
Watching young players grow, develop & acquire new skills is deeply rewarding.

Sponsorships

Running a Junior Football Club can be a costly venture. Jumpers to buy, registrations to league for each team, footballs, first aid, maintenance to clubroom. etc. etc. So to keep cost to a minimum for parents, Sponsors play an important part in our Football Club. Therefore, please support our sponsors by making use of their services wherever possible. Whenever you use their services don't forget to mention the St Damians JFC. If anyone is interested in sponsoring the club please give Shaun Mills a call on 0414765953.

Coaches, Officials, Players and Families:

Please be aware that St Damians JFC has a Zero Tolerance Policy regarding abuse of Umpires.

Please be on your best behaviour as the YJFL also has a Zero Tolerance Policy and will be clamping down on all abuse.

PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT

Players, like coaches and officials, need to abide by a code of conduct. These are laid out as follows:

1. Play by the laws and rules.
2. Don't argue.
3. Control your temper.
4. Be a team player.
5. Be a good sport.
6. Treat all players fairly.
7. Cooperate with your coaches and teammates.
8. Play for fun and improvement.
9. Avoid ugly remarks based on race or gender.

PARENTS CODE OF CONDUCT

Perhaps the most important people when it comes to abiding by codes of conducts are the parents and supporters. They are the ones who set the example that the children will follow therefore the St Damians JFC expect that parents and supporters will model good behaviour and abide by their code of conduct. These are summarised as follows:

1. Encourage participation but do not force them.
2. Teach that honest effort is the victory, not the winning.
3. Encourage play by the rules.
4. Never ridicule mistakes or losses.
5. Remember, involvement is for their enjoyment, not yours.
6. Remember, they learn best by example. Applaud both teams.
7. Recognise positively the recreational contribution of voluntary officials.
8. Never publicly disagree with officials. Raise issues privately.
9. Support all efforts to remove verbal, racial and physical abuse.
10. Support your club officials to foster high standards of behaviour for your club/league.
